Stomach Cancer: The number of stomach cancer deaths has declined in the U.S. about 40 per cent in 25 years. The cause of the decline is not known, but some scientists believe that improved nutrition may be one of the reasons. The symptoms of stomach cancer are lack of appetite, persistent indigestion, nausea, and vomiting. As in other forms of cancer, delay or self-treatment can be fatal. It is the patient's responsibility to bring symptoms which may mean cancer to the attention of a physician within two weeks. If stomach cancer is diagnosed when it is still small, and before it has invaded surrounding tissue, about 50 per cent of the patients can be cured by surgery. |
