Preheating the Oven

At one time, all recipes recommended preheating the oven. But with rising energy coast, avoiding this step is often a good idea. Cakes, breads, cookies and piecrusts generally are best when baked in preheated oven. However, for casseroles and roasts, preheating is not necessary.

 

Many recipes in our site call for preheated oven, so you may need to add several extra minutes  to the baking time if you do not preheat the oven.
