Preparation for Freezing

Bake cake or cupcakes as usual. Remove from pan; cool. (If cake is frosted, freeze it before wrapping.) Wrap in a moisture-vaporproof material; seal and label. (Unfrosted cakes and cupcakes freeze better frosted and filled cakes may become soggy.)

 

For cake frosting and fillings:

  • Recommended for freezing: Cream cheese and butter cream frostings and fillings. Seal in freezer containers. Seal in freezer containers; label.

  • Not recommended for freezing: Soft frosting, frostings made with egg whites, and cream fillings.

How to Serve:

Thaw in package at room temperature (allow 3 hours for a large cake, 1 hour for layers, and 40 minutes for cupcakes). Thaw frosted or filled cakes in the refrigerator.

 

For cake frosting and fillings: Thaw, covered, in the refrigerator.

 

Storage Time:

6 months
