Buttermilk Bread Recipes

Ingredients:

 

2 cakes fresh yeast

1/4 cup lukewarm water

1/3 cup raw sugar

1/4 cup melted vegetable shortening

1 cup room temperature buttermilk

2 eggs, well beaten

4 cups whole wheat pastry flour

1 cup wheat germ

 

Method:

  • To the yeast cakes softened in warm water, add raw sugar, melted shortening, and buttermilk.

  • Mix.

  • Add eggs and yeast.

  • Beat in wheat germ and whole wheat flour for soft dough.

  • Place dough in well-oiled, covered bowl.

  • Let rise in warm place for 1 1/2 to 2 hours or until double in bulk.

  • Bake in moderate oven (375 to 400oF) for 1 hour.
