Carob-Flavored St John's Bread Recipes

Ingredients:

 

1 quart water

1/2 cup blackstrap molasses

1/4 cup honey

1/4 cup cold-pressed sesame oil

2 tbsp sea salt

3 lbs whole hard wheat flour

1 melted yeast cake

1 cup carob powder

 

Method:

  • Heat water until lukewarm, 80oF.

  • Pour off 1/2 cup; add yeast and 2 tablespoons honey.

  • Let stand until dissolved

  • Now add 1/4 cup honey, molasses, sesame oil, and dissolved yeast to remaining lukewarm water.

  • Add about half of the flour.

  • Mix well.

  • Stir in carob powder.

  • Add more and more flour to make a stiff dough.

  • Knead sufficiently.

  • Let stand until risen in size.

  • Puncture and bake 350oF about 60 minutes.
